Endoscopy

Endoscopy is the insertion of a long, thin tube directly into the body to observe an internal organ or tissue in detail. It can also be used to carry out other tasks including imaging and minor surgery. Endoscopes are minimally invasive.

How do you prepare for your Endoscopy?

Day Before your Examination:


6:30AM: Light breakfast is allowed


12:00PM: Please do not consume solids.
You should be on a clear liquid diet for the entire day before your test. The fluids you are allowed to take include: black coffee/ tea (no milk or creamer) is permitted, strained soups and bouillon, water, clear fruit juices without the pulp, Gatorade, coconut water.

12:30PM Take 1st Packet of Picoprep in a glass of water or juice (8oz/240ml). Stir thoroughly to ensure that all granules dissolve before drinking.

1:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

2:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

3:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

4:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

5:00PM Clear soup (any broth); strained fruit juices without pulp; coconut water flavored gelatin that is NOT red (do NOT add extra ingredients); soft drinks (clear); black coffee or plain tea.

6:00PM Take 2nd Packet of Picoprep in a glass of water or juice (8oz/240ml). Stir thoroughly to ensure that all granules dissolve before drinking.

7:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

8:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

9:00PM Drink one (1) full glass of clear fluid (8oz/240ml)

Examination Day:

6:00AM Do not eat breakfast

6:30AM Take 3rd Packet of Picoprep in a glass of water or juice (8oz/240ml). Stir thoroughly to ensure that all granules dissolve before drinking.

8:00AM Continue clear fluids up to 4 hours before scheduled procedure.
